ABOUT The Rechabite Northbridge WA
Standing tall in the heart of Perth since 1925, the old Rechabite Hall has recently undergone a $4.3 million makeover, turning it into a three storey entertainment hotspot. The modern new Northbridge arts bar and entertainment venue has been cleverly designed and constructed to maintain remnants of its rich and illustrious history.
The brick and corrugated iron hall is one of the few remaining buildings created by Australian Architect Edwin Summerhayes. At its opening in 1925, the building existed to serve as the headquarters for the Independent Order of Rechabites, an English based friendly society formed as part of the wider temperance movement to promote total abstinence from alcohol. Over the last century the building has played a integral role in the Northbridge community, being used as a location for a number of balls, dance exhibitions, church services, conferences, annual meetings, school productions and election polling stations.
